Features

The S65 is the trendsetter in his serie... On the outside as much as on the inside, with integrated Bluetooth 1.2, RS-MMC card slot and 1.3 megapixel camera is this the new-generation phone !
With the super-bright 13cm2 65k colour display the fotos and clips what are made with the camera are really good shown.

Camera

The S65 is the first phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera, and with that it got also a lot of options: 5x zoom, brightness, sepia or b/w effect and a timer.
The resolution of the pictures is changeble in 5 formats: 180×240 ( wallpaper ) 154×115 ( low ) 320×240 ( medium ) 640×480 ( vga, high ) 1280×960 ( premium )
The pictures are easy to transfer to the PC and print them, or use them as wallpaper... The only annoying thing about the camera is the “click” sound when you shoot a picture...

Extra’s
Since the S65 is used as an office phone it comes with loads of extra’s. Exept for the standart things like calculator, timer, stopwatch and soundrecorder this phone has a build in unit converter, complete agenda, to do list, secured and unsecured notes, dictaphone and a complete photo editor, which is very usefull i think...

Memory

The phone has a internal memory of about 11mb, to use for java apps, videos, pictures and ringtones.
The memory is also expandeble with RS-MMC card. The phone is delivered with an 32mb memorycard. Unfortunately this card system doesnt work perfect, because every time i turn the phone on it says “Memory card Refused”.

Connectivty

It also has a big choice in connectivty:
Go online with a CSD connection, download files via GPRS or send images and sounds via Infrared or Bluetooth.
It does support smartsync with MS-Outlook, so you can sync your dates and appointments into the computer.

Internet

Exept for the standart w@p, the S65 supports XHTML what means you can open almost every WWW site, but without showing the sites pictures.
It has also a pre-installed download manager, what is a sort of whizard for downloading files. You are able to dowload the “phone files” ( files waht where pre-installed in the phone ) and “top files” ( Rintones, wallpapers, screensavers... )
And off course unmissable for a business phone: a e-mail client what supports POP3, IMAP 4 and SMPT accounts.

Java

The phone is delivered with 3 games. Siemens 3D rally is a race game with real nice graphics, but the gameplay really sucks. The Java engine of the phone supports 3D games as well as MIDP 2. Futher it has Worms and Seabattle, which both could played via bluetooth ( at least, that is what siemens says, i haven’t tried it out yet ) In the future are probably much games coming for 65 series, because of the new Java engine and the 8-way joystick it will be a fine phone to play as well !

Music ?

No, unfortunatly not :-(
It is not possible to play real music on the phone. It only has a 40 chord speaker ( which is much for ringtones, but not for music ) and it does not support a compressed audio format like mp3 or wma. The best quality the phone can handle is 8bit 8kHz mono sound, which i dont really call “music”

Bugs ?

Yes, there are some bugs i found for so far, but nothing really serious:
1. It says “Memory card refused” while it is not.
2. In some windows the text is missing.
3. When i use the eject finction it says “Removing card prevents using files” but i just can remove the card.
4. The reading of the memorycard is relative slow

But i think these bugs will be gone with the next Firmware version. I’m using 12 now, because for my variant it is the newest, but i read and heard of FW 16 and 23 already, so im still waiting...

Conclusion

Me myself, i’m very satisfied with the phone... But if you want a music player real bad, dont buy the S65, couse it is not very likely there will be one... Instead the foto’s are real good quality, so it depends on what you expect from a phone...
At least i have so say i’m dissapointed that is has NO Symbian OS... So it is no, and will never be a smartphone.
