The only users which will not be pleased with this phone are those who
allready got the C75, and now would like ME75. Just when we got this
modeel in our hands, Siemens sent his part of company in charge for
making mobile phones to BenQ Mobile, which is a name of new company, so
we can say that this is a first model under that brand. Ofcourse,
mobile phones that will come in marketing untill the end of this year
are still gonna have the same logitype, and web sites for support have
the same content like till 1. october, but are just on a new domain.
Practical gadgetsNothing
has changed in the conception of a devicec. In this case it is a
positive because ME75 is an off-road model of C75, which we have tested
in last nuumber, equally as ME75 from which he has borrowed bad look
and army colours. With a price of about 100 kunas more than C75, we now
have a device with trully different look and some more functions for
what is worth this difference in price. With those we meet allready by
opening a back cover which is, like all of the Siemens off-road models,
closed with a rubber screw that keeps the cover tight. That keeps
dust, and even more important damp from getting into device.
Besides
this one, they put two more plastic seals, one for a place of charget
and other gadgets and the other for the objective of camera. In a
package of this phone comes two packs of seals, so it won't be a
problem when you loose one. Once equipped with protection gadgets, ME75
won't like the older brother M75 please industrial standards for
protection of a device, but will be just enough resistant to be used
for fieldtrips or a dusty workspacee.
Dominating displayThe
display is dominating the front side under which is a functional keys
and a numeric part of a keyboard. And while copying function keys from
C75 was a good idea,
a change of a five way navigation key (infact
joystick) wasn't a good idea. A «stick» is too small and put too deep
so the users with a little bigger thumbs will have problems while using
it.
A keys on numeric field are made good. Although the small
keys doesn't seem practical on first sight, but it is proofed that this
small space between keys is very efficient and easy for typing.
Display
built in ME75 we allready met in near ten Siemens devices and we
allways had a good thought. Besides, if the great business model SK65
with BlackBerry is using it, it would be more than enough for the
middle class in which is this phone. In numbers, by the 65,536 colours
this TFT display gives a resolution of 132x176 dots, which makes him
good for taking a camera pictures and video recorder that are built in
this phone. Ofcourse she is our old friend from last tests. Resolution
of 640x480 dots will serve for taking a photos when you won't have a
real camera beside you. This is one of the main differences between M75
which is equipped with 1,3 megapixel camera and is much more usefull as
a camera.
All of the usuall funcionalities – from handsfree
usage, over the IrDA interface, sinchronization with a computer, 3D
java support, animated guides, one inbox folder for all incomming
messages, WAP 2.0 browser, Photo Editor, great interface for making MMS
messages and all of the other fuunctions – they are stabile and do
their job perfectly.
Thanx to a better battery capacity of 1000 mAh
comparing to 750 mAh at C75, loglife of battery is longer, what should
be a proiority at this phone who is made for a longer stay in nature.
If
we conclude this case of thinking of where this will all go knowing
that new owner is now making this phones, we can say that ME75 is a
great example. A model of middle class, sports look, without children's
things that had a last model, probably modest developing budget which
was mainly spent on design of a shell – those are all parts of a recipe
for a succes on marketing. Will that be enough, a time will show.
