First in a series od Walkman is attractive designed twin brother of excellent model K750i and how it's adjustable to listening music, it's delivered with memory card capacity of even half GB (512 MB) and the softwer adjustable for MP3 notes.

Autumn 2005 will be autumn of music telephones because it almost there aren't producers of mobile telephone who didn't announce at least one product in that segment. On the market of mobile music players Sony has been found in a quite amiss position in the last few years because brand Walkman(most of the lack of support for planetary popular MP3 and persistent inzisting on AAC format) even with his digital publication couldn't even about counteract successful products from other companys, like those of Apple players iPod. The name od Sony on the market of digital music, simply- didn't meant to much anymore.
Attempt of „amination“ brand Walkman through mobile device Sony game on card nostalgia at generation which is in their youth more than anything wanted a Walkman for birthday, hoping how will at the same time and a recent younger generation manage to approach once very successful brand. However, when branding thrill goes down, series of devices could actually called anyhow different according to that on fist sight – as soon as you see attractive and strange designed box – it's pretty clear how we have here a mobile tephone with emphasize music possibilities.
Sony Ericsson W800i is first telephone which is appearing in series Walkman of this producer(there are expecting also and models W550 and W600) and in backbone it's about slightly modified model K750i. W800i and K750i are sharing most of theirs functions(we can say-almost all of them), because most of the modification on model W800i is exclusively softwer nature to make possible his appliance as music player. Since that we have tested K750i in last number of Moby, in this article will be inevitably comparisons and some of repeating those what we already said about that excellent telephone. For those who don't want to read the whole our demonstration, we can say that except a few cosmetic, changes in relation on K750i are actually only two: adjustment of softwer to play music and activate MemoryStick DUO card capacity 512 MB onto W800i.

Elegant white, provocative orange.

With his bacis look and dimensions W800i is almost identical like model K750i.
Design has combined white and pretty perceive orange colour which trough user interface become protective sign of this telephone. Also and the box in which is W800i delivered is orange and the background lightning of keypad is orange.
So there's no too much doubt that the W800i will be used by a younger generation who wanted to be noticed.
We liked the keypad, although we seemed that the one on K750i is better. On W800i keys are in fact placed pretty low, practically in level itself box(they are just a little risen in relation on it) and they have very short walk. a little longer walk could make keys and writing long SMS messages comfortable, but during our exploitation W800i we have concluded that this isn't something about we have to disquiet. In a view of schedule of keys everything is almost identical to model K750i, with exception of central key below the screen which has on K750i been used like shortcut for often used functions (on D750i for conecting on mobile portal), until on W800i, quite logical, calls function of telephone which wanted to be most often used – music player. Five direction joystick is very good and we can't object him anything. On the right hip, like on K750i, there are keys for regulation of loudness-zooming(when the W800i we use like camera).

Music soul

First change which goes toward that W800i could be full blooded music device you'll notice during his turning on: on device has been added offline way of work, it's possible to turn him on without activation of telephone. In this way W800i could be used like music player in situation when you don't want or you can't be disturbed(like the plane). Producer allege how will, with disconnected phone part of device and with standar battery capacity 900mAh, W800i „hold on“ about 20 hours playing music, which generally match our test but in situation when is device particularly left to play alone and without using the keypad and interface of music player.
Music player, except by special key with the front side of device, can move by specialized key on the left hip of telephone while he's in condition of waiting. Difference is iin this-by her click directly will start reproduction currently active song. On the main screen will appear an ikon which marks that the reproduction is in progress and the name of song will „walk“ at the top of the screen. (unfortunately, the name of song will not stay there, although we'd like that and that we can see it during the reproduction; in some way we don't understand why the engineers who had worked on W800i didn't try hard to realize that somehow. )

By her funcionality camera is the same like on K750i. However, with view on the back side of W800i you'll conclude that it's different then K750i: it doesn't exist slider for activation aplication for recording and putting camera „in drive“, he's replaced with little slider which opens cover of objective. Ditto solution is also practical – if not and practically – so we liked that. Behind protective cover of camera there's identical 2-megapixel camera with autofocus like on K750i. Application for fotographing works just like you would expect from digital camera: telephone is used in horizontal position and on the screen are always available information about number of other pictures which can be saved im memory of telephone or on memory card as well as on currently resolution and way of recording (example, is it macro mode turned on). Also, and menus looks like on real „digitals“ and trough them we can choose recording fotographs or video, size and resolution of picture, apropos turning on and turning off night way of recording, flashlight and automatic timer. Thereto, there's a line of standard effects (black-white recording, negatives, solar effect) and possibility of adjustment balance of white colour.

All of the rest functions of W800i are identical often mentioned model-K750i.
Functions like calendar and phen book and WAP browser are invariable in relation on that model, so we didn't dedicate them to much attention in this test. Story with W800i is pretty clear: this telephone will attract before everything those who use music device and wanted suitable (read:attractive) designed telephone.
Absolutely nothing couldn't stoped you to decided on K750i, buy some more memory card and use it like solid music player. But, the softwer of model W800i bring some „knick knacks“ which facilitate using the telephone in music role, and like offline way of work. When on that we added and memory card of half GB, we seemed that even those who don't look music device, W800i colud be better shopping then his business twin.

Music application

Slightly changed in relation on present devices, but the news is offline way of work.
The application for playing music hasn't been changed too muck in relation on K750i. The songs which are on memory card he sorts by the name of performers or by the name of songs, and we also have here list of playlist and video. Equalizer is identical to earlier models, so on that way we can predestine choose defined profiles (bass, mega bass, voice, treble boost) or the whole thing can be manually setup depending of sort of music that we listen. Music player is in finally absolutely solid ; it doesn't offer anything sensacionally new, but on other side, little thing can be added to music player.

However, what could we do to make W800i even better telephone? Well, example, stereo megaphones! Which, unfortunately on model W800i are missing. Although delivered earphone are very good, the fact is that on market has started to appear devices which offers absolutely solid stereo sound. The main „trick“ certainly isn't in the stereo sound, but in his fullness and the fact that devices with stereo megaphones (like the Motorola E398) gives full sound which doesn't iritating like the sound from somehow old transistor, which allow users that sometime and with their own enviroment share some good song. Speaker maegphone which is installed on W800i is solid, but you'll never listen music little longer on it. Obviously, there are segments where Sony Ericsson can continue to develop his line Walkman. Earphones, certainly, normally are used and like antenna for built-in FM radio, identical those on K750i which includes and support for RDS.
