Message from the President Atsutoshi NishidaMy goal as president is to create a lively, more clearly defined Toshiba Group that channels ceaseless innovation into achieving sustained growth with profit across our businesses. I also want to reinforce the visibility and message of our corporate brand. Towards this, in 2006, we announced a new brand tag line, "TOSHIBA Leading Innovation". This succinctly clarifies our brand identity and promotes further understanding of Toshiba's management style by stakeholders and the
wider society.
A Toshiba for TomorrowOur activities span Electronic Devices & Components, Digital Products, Infrastructure Systems, and Home Appliances. We are promoting strategies and capital investments, and channeling significant resources into key businesses that will sustain further growth and add to profitability. This can be seen in our investments in new semiconductor facilities, particularly for NAND flash memory, and our drive for leadership in the AV market through products such as next-generation TVs. We have welcomed Westinghouse into Toshiba Group. Its expertise in nuclear power generation and nuclear fuel, and its worldwide market presence, have an important role to play in taking Toshiba Group's energy systems business to the global level.
Multiplier Effect of InnovationsThe growth we are aiming for demands wide-ranging innovation in the way we do business. Through our Group-wide "i cube" program, we are promoting innovation in development, innovation in manufacturing and innovation in sales, along with the multiplier effect of applying these advances throughout our operations. We want to go beyond conventional methods of incremental improvements. "i cube" is the means to empower everybody in Toshiba, so that they can develop their capabilities to the full, and bring a sense of urgency to their work and to the development of business processes that add to the bottom line.
CSR-Based ManagementManagement grounded in CSR (corporate social responsibility) is at the core of our business. We prioritize respect for life, safety and legal compliance in all of our activities, and CSR is an integral part of operations for every business division and employee. We seek to earn the trust of our stakeholders, and the wider community through outreach programs and voluntary activities. Protection of the global environment is particularly important. We promote strict environmental management and auditing, deliver environmentally-conscious products and promote energy-saving at our factories. Our "Environmental Vision 2010" and voluntary environmental action plan will double Toshiba Group's overall eco-efficiency by fiscal 2010. Our most important mission is to contribute to a better life for the people who use Toshiba products, systems and services. We will do that by applying proactive management and continuous innovation to advances that support sustained growth with profit and the continued evolution of a strong, dynamic Toshiba Group.
