I-Mode is a service that provides content - like weather and news updates, games and horoscopes - and e-mail service for I-Mode compatible handsets by Globul. To use the service, customers enter the content categories they are interested in on the I-Menu, the main service menu, using the keys designated on their I-Mode handset. As a special promotion, Globul is offering up to 5MB of free GPRS access and free monthly subscriptions to all I-Mode sites. After the 5MB limit is reached, subscribers will be charged the flat rate of BGN 2.40/MB (BGN 0.0024/Kb). This offer expires 31 October 2006.

I-Mobile, a wireless communications company in Thailand has launched two mobile phones with Nazi symbols and insignias printed on them. German phone maker Road has announced its answer to Nokia's Communicator. Dubbed the HandyPC, the phone-computer combo is based on the Linux operating system and Trolltech's Qtopia GUI. It's a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE device with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on board too.

Mobile Streams Acquires Mobilemode For €8 million
Mobile stream, an international mobile media and music company, has reached an agreement to acquire the mobile entertainment group Mobilemode Ltd. It’s a part cash and part stock deal. The maximum total consideration of the deal is €8 million, with €1 million going in upfront payment. This will mark Mobile Streams’ entry into the Asia Pacific market in a big way, since Mobilemode, founded in 1999, delivers mobile entertainment content and services to mobile phone operators and portals mainly in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The EU has announced details of its plan to slash the cost of using a mobile phone abroad by up to 70 per cent. The wholesale cost will be capped based on the cost of the termination rate for calls, which varies from country to country. The EU would annually review an average of this value to set the cap. Then, the mark-up at retail will be limited to 30 per cent. The caps will apply to calls both made and received while abroad.
Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson said Thursday its second-quarter earnings nearly doubled, largely due to continued strong sales of its popular Walkman music phones. The company raised its global market forecast for 2006.
Microsoft and Palm have enlisted the help of Vodafone to give the Treo a more Euro flavor. According to Palm, the device that will result from the Treo trio's collaboration will be available in the U.K. this year and will be 3G-compatible--a first for the company. The US International Trade Commission is investigating Nokia over allegations that it infringed Qualcomm patents. Qualcomm complained to the ITC in June and is asking for an exclusion order to stop imports of infringing Nokia products, and a cease and desist order to stop Nokia selling handsets it has already imported into the US. The ITC is considering whether Nokia "engaged in unfair trade practises" by selling handsets which infringed on Qualcomm patents.
